American indie pop group Pure Bathing Culture – aka Oregon’s Sarah Versprille and Daniel Hindman – are a band steeped in the glories of the past. North Carolina’s Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn – aka Sylvan Esso – are a pair well and truly rooted in the pop conventions of today. Match made in heaven or what?

Meath and Sanborn have fiddled around with the mechanics of the title track from Pure Bathing Culture’s lovely second album Pray For Rain and turns it into something quite different to its original form. What we get is some intact vocals layered over a slowed-down beat and nagging bleeps that’s closer in spirit to Sylvan Esso’s work by evading the typical ‘let’s turn it into a dancefloor filler’ cliché.

Listen to the remix of ‘Pray For Rain’ below. The (original, unremixed) album by Pure Bathing Culture is out now via Partisan Records.
