For anyone looking to fill a void left by the bubblegum lo-fi indie of Alvvays, perhaps a gaze in the opposite direction is needed. Swedish quintet Francis have been plying their trade for nearly a decade in their homeland but so far haven’t managed to break too far out of Scandanavia. But as they gear up to release their next album Marathon early next year, their charm might just be what we’re looking for.
‘Horses’ is the second cut from the album and it’s an effortless glide through lo-fi inspired guitar hooks, slightly fuzzy drums and vocals from Petra Mases that are thoroughly charming and engaging. Marathon is the first album by them to be given an international release, but on the strength of this we wonder why it’s taken them this long to take the plunge…
You can listen to ‘Horses’ below. Marathon is out on 5th February via Strangers Candy.
