Have you got quarter of an hour to spare? Are you sure? Are you sitting comfortably? Good. It’s time to sit back, relax and listen to the latest magnum opus from Mancunian singer-songwriter Kiran Leonard.
‘Pink Fruit’ is the semi-titular opening track to Leonard’s upcoming album Grapefruit, and it’s a sprawling and often tangled ride into the psyche. We think it might be about masculinity and commitment. Or maybe not. But it does have all the wild abandon of a Dirty Projectors record with the guitar-based grandeur of Broken Social Scene. Leonard cites the end of Eraserhead, Alan Bennett’s The Madness of King George III, the lack of professional percussion, Grinderman’s ‘disgustingly underrated’ second album Grinderman II and more as influences.
But we won’t keep you any longer if you want to experience the full 16 minutes.
Listen to ‘Pink Fruit’ below. Grapefruit is out on 25th March 2016 via Moshi Moshi.
