When the fine people at Stereogum chatted to Washington DC/ Los Angeles-based trio Misun a little while back, they professed a deep, deep love for The Strokes and Julian Casablancas. Well, if you were expecting some extremely rough sounding vocals and a squall of Albert Hammond Jr’s guitar riffs after that then you’ll be sorely disappointed. If, however, you’re in the market for some trippy synthpop then you’ve come to the right place.
After sharing a vast wave of their distinctive ‘aquawave’ tracks online over the past year, ‘Give It Up’ might be their most accomplished feat yet. Though it takes some more miserable affairs of the heart as its core theme, the song is so bathed in sunshine synths and pop beats that it’s almost impossible not to feel like a big bundle of joy while hearing it. Heartbreak never sounded so fun.
