Most people would probably find moving house stressful enough. But moving country is a whole other ball game. English singer-songwriter Victoria Hume took the step of moving to Johannesburg and, while it mustn’t have been easy to move her life from one hemisphere to another, it did give her a burst of inspiration, one that’s distilled itself into her new EP Closing.
With songs inspired by everything from the liberating feeling of selling everything to the onset of loneliness, Closing promises to be an EP of quiet reflection that’s somewhere between Sharon van Etten and Joanna Newsom. The title track itself doesn’t disappoint with its sparse piano, strings and Hume’s warm, natural tones.
Listen to ‘Closing’ below. The EP is out on 15th January 2016 via Lost Map.
