Remember how amazing Tom Tom Club were? That style of sing-speaking with a perfect pop background is always a good antidote to some of the more mundane aspects of daily life. Like driving. Driving is pretty boring really isn’t it? London duo Taffy Trouble – made up of friends Alex and Ella – are trying to similarly inject some fun into the everyday.
And so we have their new song ‘Backseat Driver,’ though come to think of it maybe it’s not actually about driving at all… Nevertheless, it’s a DIY debut that gets in your face with its twinkling, bouncy melodies, sparse electronic production and completely sassy attitude. The retro video game vibe comes from producer Neil Comber, who’s worked with MIA and Charli XCX, but for their upcoming debut EP they’ve enlisted the help of Dimitri Tikovoi, responsible for transforming Nicola Roberts from being “the ginger one in Girls Aloud” into an unstoppable pop machine. Watch this space, Taffy Trouble might be taking the pop wheel next year.
