After creating everything from neo soul and dub to sweeping rap and synthpop wonders, duo Gosh Pith have set themselves up as being anything but predictable. As likely to release a fuzzed-out guitar-led track as they are an honest-to-club banger, you never really know what you’re going to get when you delve into their back catalogue. So it was a case of throwing all expectations out of the window for their latest tune ‘Gold Chain.’ And despite once again throwing us a curveball that veers off at a 90-degree angle, they’ve still managed to produce something blissful.
According to them, ‘Gold Chain’ is “a ratchet love song about the constant conflict between the meaningful and the meaningless,” which sounds a bit too deep for us, so we’re happy to wallow in the laid-back tones of Josh Smith’s anguished vocals and the type of sonics that come from loving everything from King Crimson to ?uestlove. Yep, it’s time to get your R&B on again, but Gosh Pith are so consistently good at the whole thing that the rest of us probably need to stop pretending we’re Drake and let them show us how it’s done.
