Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas! For 12 days up to and including Christmas Eve we’re sharing some tunes that’ll be helping you to get into the festive spirit and ranges from everything from pop to R&B, rap to punk rock. Enjoy!
So it’s five days in to our quest for alternative Christmas music that’ll help you stay off the Slade for a while and you’re probably wondering when we’ll start resorting to covers. Well our usual response to that would be a firm never… unless the cover happens to be pretty damn good. Hailing from Durham in the north of England, post-punk duo Massa Confusa released their version of The Waitresses’ holiday classic ‘Christmas Wrapping’ last year as part of Another Alt Christmas Album, a compilation of punk festive tunes for charity. All fuzz and noise, the melodies are still recognisable but deliciously twisted – so if you always wanted The Waitresses to beef up the reverb, the Durham duo have obliged.
Oh and if you’re wondering, yes, we do have a few more covers up the sleeves of our novelty Christmas jumpers…
Listen to ‘Christmas Wrapping’ below.
