“Nothing makes me happier than writing sad songs,” Lauren Aquilina says on her Twitter page. While her lyrics may focus on hard times, though, Lauren’s songs veer between showing that fragility and glorious synthpop vibes. Over the course of a series of EPs released while she was still at school, Aquilina set herself up as a songwriter mature beyond her age, a trend that continues on her latest track ‘Echoes.’
Co-written by Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West, ‘Echoes’ is a slice of power pop that focuses on a dysfunctional relationship. It’s a sleek number that’s filled with skittering pianos and lush instrumentation. Hopefully it’s a sign of what’s to come from future releases by the London artist.
