Probably cheating a bit here. ‘Sugar’ by Philadelphian singer songwriter Abi Reimold ha actually been kicking around for a couple of months but it’s so captivating that it was worth airing here.
If you like the intensity of Torres and the emotion of Sharon van Etten, Reimold manages to sit somewhere comfortably between the two. ‘Sugar’ is sometimes brittle and fragile and at other times it’s intense and defiant. How it manages to weave between the two so deftly in the space of a mere two and a half minutes is pretty mind-boggling. The track is taken from her upcoming album Wriggling and if this is anything to go by, it’s set to be a rollercoaster of emotions that’ll leave you feeling a bit overwhelmed. In the best possible way, of course.
