Portland-based husband and wife duo Keith and Hollie Kenniff, better known as Mint Julep, have been pretty quiet since the release of their 2011 debut album Save Your Season. But, five years down the line, they’re getting ready to release their sophomore record Broken Devotion, and have shared an almost perfectly formed slice of synthpop that’ll have you all excited for its release in February. ‘Slow Spiral’ is built on a foundation of warm electronics and heavier percussion which gradually ramps itself up through the track until it becomes something of an unstoppable juggernaut.
Keith spoke to The Line of Best Fit, where the track premiered, about the process of making the new album: “It’s been great for Hollie and me to bond over making music, and to have that music feed into our relationship. Writing music can be stressful, but there’s that joy that comes from creating something that you know you’ll have for a really long time. We can finish an album and move on, and then go back years later and let the songs tell us what was happening then, what we were feeling. It’s a cool way to mark all these very specific moments in our lives together.”
