The simple same of Two People is wonderfully unassuming and humble, though the team behind the music actually have a more established pedigree than their moniker suggests. Phoebe Cockburn and Joey Clough were once members of Melbourne dreampop outfit Snakadaktal, who called it a day in 2014 after just one album.
Fans of the short-lived Snakadaktal will no doubt recognise some of the atmospherics at play in ‘Fading,’ but it’s been stripped of too much percussion in favour of more ambient electronics. Grasping on to the point in a relationship where things need to become more concrete, the instrumentation and Cockburn’s yearning voice reflect the overall concept of fading while still grabbing the listener’s attention. If things keep progressing like this, Cockburn and Clough will turn out to be more than just two people.
