When you’re making a cake you have to have all the ingredients in the right balance – too much or too little of any element and you’ll either be left with a nice smelling brown rock or a gloopy yellow mess. So sometimes when a band tries to experiment with different genres and throws a lot of influences into the mixing bowl, you wonder how their work will turn out when it’s fully cooked. Luckily, you never have to worry about that with Lafayette trio GIVERS, who have become adepts at the pick and mix style of music making.
Their latest single ‘Growls’ is taken from their upcoming album New Kingdom; that’s a very appropriate title for a group who appear to be honing all their disparate influences into something fresh and unique. It’s not without its pop charm though and has a massive chorus and some good old fashioned indie pop swings in the verses. GIVERS will take you to that New Kingdom and you’ll never want to leave again.
Listen to ‘Growls’ below. New Kingdom is released on 8th April 2016 through Glassnote Records.
