Want to know how we came across this one? Grimes reposted it on Soundcloud. Grimes. So you know that it’s going to be amazing. Actually, Toronto-based Nicole Dollanganger has collaborated with Grimes in the past and has released a string of covers and original material in the last couple of months. Her latest, though, is something… quite feral.
‘Beautiful and Bad’ was recorded at Priest’s Palace and is a collaboration with Matthew Tomasi. Now that bit of housekeeping is over with, bring on the noise. The track is awash with industrial sludge and super-heavy guitar riffs that completely contrast against Dollanganger’s girlish (yes, Grimes-like) coos. It’s a bit like if a seventeen year old Kate Bush decided she didn’t want to sing about Wuthering Heights anymore and joined a hardcore metal band instead. Yeah, it’s pretty ferocious stuff.
