The self-styled Shirley Temple of the North follows up the infectious, yet vulnerable, Reinvent with another glorious, toe-tapping ode to imperfection.
Golden Girl sees Phoebe Green once again in confessional mode. “I’m never gonna be a golden girl” she declares in her distinctive and sweet vocals. Those sweet and melancholic harmonies, underpinned with waves of dark drums, brooding bass and spiraling, playful synths combine beautifully to create a bittersweet banger.
In a press release for the track, Phoebe said: “‘Golden Girl’ is about realising that being alone can be absolutely crucial when it comes to self growth,” something we can all relate to in twenty twenty.
Golden Girl is one of four (six if you plump for the vinyl) tracks that comprise her upcoming EP ‘I Can’t Cry For You’ out on Chess Records on 3rd December. Check out the delightfully colourful accompanying video by Harvey Frost and Rory Chapman, below.
